Four of the Japanese giant companies NTT DoCoMo, Renesas, Fujitsu and Sharp have announced that they plan to jointly develop the SH-Mobile G4 single-chip LSI device, and a platform incorporating it, to support the HSUPA1/HSDPA2/W-CDMA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE (2G) mobile telephony standards.

picoChip announced today that the first public demonstration of its PC8808 TD-SCDMA femtocell software reference design in China marks its general availability in the market. At the same time picoChip revealed Digimoc, a leading Chinese solution provider of femtocells, as its first publicly disclosed TD-SCDMA customer. Digimoc is using picoChip’s PC202 device and PHY software reference design in its femtocell product.
picoChip’s PC8808 TD-SCDMA femtocell software reference design was developed in China at picoChip’s Beijing design center. Alltel Wireless and LG Electronics announced today that LG Rhythm is available in Alltel retail stores and online at shopalltel.com.
LG Rhythm is a music phone which comes with Digital Signal Processing, a graphic equalizer, an internal FM transmiter and a 3.5 mm stereo headset and a microphone that can toggle from music to calls and back. There’s also an LG mechanical wheel with a center touchscreen, and a dedicated music hot key. LG Rhythm comes with a 2 inch QVGA display, a 1.3 megapixel camera with zoom and camcorder, Bluetooth 2.0 capabilities and microSD support for up to 16 GB.
The Rhythm will cost $119.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate, with a two year contract.

Nokia N79 was first seen at CTIA 2008, and was approved by the FCC today.The N79 will have 850/1900 UMTS support, a 5 megapixel Zeiss camera with sliding lens cover, dual LED flash, VGA video recording, TV-out, S60 Feature Pack 2 and probably more.
Nokia N79 is expected on non-US markets to hit by the end of the year and it’s rumored to cost around $520. The phone might arrive in AT&T stores in the same time but there’s no official announcement to point to that.
