Next-gen iPhone to get new ARM processor

Take Wei-han Lien, for example, who is currently the senior manager of Apple’s chip team. While his LinkedIn profile didn’t quite look unusual, he revealed a very intriguing bit of information about him and his job at Apple.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he is currenly managing the ARM CPU architecture team for the iPhone. The iPhone and iPhone 3G already have their own ARM processors running underneath, so the only way Lien could be managing the ARM CPU architecture team for the iPhone is if Apple is making an entirely new ARM processor that’s based on specific iPhone needs itself.

iPhone 2.1 Firmware Pwned

iPhone Dev Team have already rolled out the PwnageTool and QuickPwn for iPhone 2.1. It is important to note that this won’t work if you’re running on the new iPod Touch 2G. In this new update, the iPhone Dev Team managed to circumvent iTunes 8 sans program patching, so you won’t have to have sleepless nights about altering a core OS X program. Proceed with caution, and always make a backup before you perform upgrades of any sort.

Sony Ericsson W910i MOBO Edition On its Way

Sony Ericsson has unveiled a new version of their popular W910i walkman phone  - the SE W910i MOBO Edition. This announcement came a month before the 2008 MOBO Awards that will be held at the Wembley Arena in London. The specifications of the new phone, however, hasn’t been fully released to the public. But do know that the W910i MOBO should be on sale later this year, only across the UK and only via Carphone Warehouse.

As it is another version of the W910i walkman phone, then most probably the phone will come with pre-installed MOBO content. Also, primary staples of the original phone will probably be still there like its design, measurement and certain features. Features like a Walkman Player (version 3.0), TrackID, motion sensor, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, FM radio with RDS, quad-band GSM connectivity with GPRS and EDGE, HSDPA 2100 MHz connectivity, a 2.4 inch TFT display with 256K colors and a QVGA resolution, NetFront browser, email and IM, JAVA MIDP 2.0, a 2 MP camera with video recording, 40MB of internal memory and support for Memory Stick Micro cards would probably be in this new phone.

HTC Touch Viva – A Refreshed HTC Touch

HTC Touch Viva is the name of the latest-leaked smartphone produced by HTC. IT was initially said to be called HTC Opal.

Apparently, Touch Viva will be the successor of the first HTC device from the Touch series, the one simply called HTC Touch and released in Europe about one year ago.

Leaked over at Pocketpt, HTC Touch Viva is said to come with features like quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 /1900 MHz), a 2.8-inch TFT touchscreen display with the classic 240 x 320 pixel resolution, Microsoft’s latest Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, HTC’s new TouchFLO 3D, Wi-Fi, a 2 MP photo camera, support for microSD / microSDHC cards, and so on – all packed inside a case that measures 104 x 59 x 15.5 millimeters (4.09 x 2.32 x 0.61 inches) and weighs 110 grams (3.88 ounces).

So, basically, the Viva is an old HTC Touch with a new User Interface and worldwide connectivity. Which is not a bad thing, of course, as not all mobile users can afford a Touch Diamond, but they might still want to own a touchscreen device.

As far as rumors go, HTC should present the new Touch Viva this month. More exactly, the smartphone is said to be launched on September 15 in Asia (probably across Taiwan and China), while Europe will be getting it two weeks later, on September 30. The retail price of Viva should be no higher than 300 Euros (426 USD), but we have to wait for an official confirmation to know this for sure.
